The Fashion Bicycle...

Well hello there!

I went shopping this week (like i do most weeks-self-confessed shopaholic!) And it got me thinking about past, present and future fashion and wondering does it ever really change? Is there such thing as new fashion?

Lets use Vans as an example, they are a big seller at the moment and you can't walk down a street without seeing someone wearing a pair! but are they new? NO! Vans started on March 16, 1966 in a store in  Anaheim, California! The company went bankrupt in 1983, but rebuilt their company and then suddenly took off again this year!

But then again there are things that never really go out of fashion! like converse for example who have had success ever since the release of their signature Chuck Taylor All Stars. Duffel coats, simple ballet pumps, simple t-shirts, denim jeans! So many things are always in stores and magazines!

The thing i want to know; is fashion a cycle? I did a little research and came across some picture of Twiggy back in her prime in the sixties!  One of my favourite pictures ever is the black and white image of twiggy with her signature eye lashes wearing a knitted, fair isle jumper. And looking around i found a similar jumper on ASOS! Fair isle is everywhere this year as well as last!
Another Twiggy find was a picture of her modelling a short white dress with a high, square neck line. And looking around i found pictures of both Alexa Chung and Taylor Swift wearing similar dresses!

But this pattern goes further back than the sixties! 1940s tea dresses and floral patterns are back! with stars like Kate Middleton, Taylor swift and Zoeey Deschanel stepping out in mid length dresses and floral tea dresses appearing in stores everywhere!

So, lovely reader, why question to you is "Is fashion about something new, so simply taking the old and re-arranging it?". I, personally, believe fashion is a cycle and all our "new trends" are just past ones coming back around again! I think new fashions are just past ones tweaked and i love it! I love looking back and seeing what people were wearing years and years and years ago and thinking "ha ha my dress looks like that!" or "wow, that would look really nice!" or "ooo how could i get an outfit like that?!" It's like going on a fashion mission to recreate the past through a floral dress and a pair of midi-heels! Past fashions are so beautiful and when people bring them forward, tweak them to suit our times, i get a little tingly feeling inside, makes me smile to see someone wearing a dress on an average day!

That's all for now!
much love

The perks of books being made into movies!

Hello!

I'm one of the decreasing amount of teenagers that read, there is never a time when i don't have a book on the go! I honestly can't tell you what my favourite book is as there are so so so many good ones, like so many! (lets just say this, my shelf is close to collapsing under the pressure!)

One of my top books is "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky. For those of you that don't know what it's about; the book tells the story of, and is narrated by, a teenage boy called Charlie through a series of letters. Charlie and his family have not had an easy past, and all charlie wants when he starts high school is to get through it.
But let me get one this straight now, THIS IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE "STORY OF A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT" BOOK!
The story follows charlie through almost everything;girls, drugs, music, new friends, first dates, even the rocky horror picture show.

It is one of those books where you finish it and just kind of sit there think "wow." and you genuinely feel effected by it! The only way i can think to describe it is like being stabbed in the heart by a massive candy cane, it hurts so much and you are so shocked, but it's just SO DANG GOOD!

But then, I'll be honest with you here, when i heard it was being turned into a film i was extremely dubious about it, almost annoyed! You see, for me perks of being a wallflower is one of those books that you never want it to be ruined, so you dint want others to know about, in case they turn around like "it's rubbish" So when i heard about the film i was so worried that they would get it wrong, try and turn it into something it isn't, all happy and smiley.
Then along came to trailer...BOOM bright yellow screen with the title on. That was the moment i vowed i wouldn't see it, as much as i wanted. I would stick by the book, i would not give into the media!

Yeah then i went to see it on the first weekend it was out (great job keeping your promises Lucy!)
I don't cry at films, i can sit there through multiply deaths with a poker face, i didn't even cry at Marley and me! But then oh my gosh this film, I just wept, all the way through; constant stream of tears, mascara down my face, puffy eyes! Then knowing the ending, just cried even more!
I wasn't disappointed in the slightest, they had got everything perfect! the music, the outfits, the scenery, the actors, the words, everything! Both me and my best friend had read, and love, the book, and seconds into the scene we could tell which part it was simply from the setting and the music!

I JUST CAN'T DESCRIBE HOW AMAZING IT WAS!

honestly, just so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so good!

If you like indie/soft rock/rock and roll go see it!
If you like complex/deep plot lines go see it!
If you like Emma Watson go see it!
If you simply like good films defiantly go see it!

5 STARS! i most defiantly recommend you either see the film or read the book, be adventurous, DO BOTH!

that's all for now!
have a lovely week!
